Pont-L'abbé: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The estuary of the Rivière de Pont-l'Abbé is considered an area of great ecological importance and covers 600 hectares. It is home to an internationally significant population of waterbirds.

Nature

The towpath along the harbour of Pont-l'Abbé passes a stone causeway, pine forests, a tidal mill and islets home to numerous birds. The interpretation trail along the Rivière de Pont-l'Abbé comprises nine stations and provides information about the birds, the history of the Château de Pont-l'Abbé and the development of the estuary.

Culture

The Église Notre-Dames-des-Carmes was essentially completed in 1411. It was classified as a historic monument by decree of 9 May 1914. The Église de Notre-Dame des Carmes is the former chapel of the Carmelite monastery; its rose window has a diameter of 7.70 metres and is one of the largest in Finistère.

The Château des Barons du Pont and the Musée Bigouden are closed for renovation work until winter 2026. An eastern tower dating from the 15th century remains of the Château des Barons du Pont; it also has a residential wing rebuilt in the 18th century above medieval cellars. The Musée Bigouden is housed in the Château des Barons du Pont and has catalogued more than 2,500 items, which are either on display or kept in storage.

The Église Saint-Jacques de Lambour is a Gothic church built between the 13th and 16th centuries. The Église de Lambour has been classified as a historic monument since 30 June 1896. The Festival des Brodeuses takes place every summer at the beginning of July in the streets of Pont-l'Abbé and in the Bois Saint-Laurent; its programme includes a parade of Breton costumes, competitions, a fest-noz and demonstrations.

Markets

The weekly market in Pont-l'Abbé takes place every Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Place Gambetta and Place de la République. The Halles de Pont-l'Abbé are home to cheese and wine shops, a butcher's, a charcuterie, a fruit and vegetable shop, fishmongers and a takeaway crêpe stand.

Activities

The GR34 passes through Pont-l'Abbé, goes around the Rivière de Pont-l'Abbé area and connects it towards Loctudy and Île-Tudy. From the town centre, the Base nautique de Pont-l'Abbé rents out paddleboards as well as single and double kayaks for exploring the Rivière de Pont-l'Abbé.

The greenway between Pluguffan and Pont-l'Abbé is a 12-kilometre walking route along a former railway line. It has a paved surface suitable for walking and cycling.

Transport

The demand-responsive TAD Pays Bigouden Sud shared transport service runs to Pont-l'Abbé and Quimper.
