Water and Walking Trails
Lac Saint Michel is an artificial lake covering approximately 500 hectares. Non-motorised water sports are permitted on Lac Saint Michel, including canoeing, kayaking, rowing, stand-up paddleboarding and light sailing. Fishing is permitted on Lac Saint Michel from the shore or from a boat; combustion engines are prohibited.
Lac Saint Michel can be reached from Brennilis via the Nestavel district, where there is a car park. The Circuit du Yeun Elez is a walking trail of approximately 15 kilometres that runs around the lake.
The RNN du Venec nature reserve is located within the municipality of Brennilis, in the heart of the Yeun Elez. It covers 334 hectares of heathland, moorland, deciduous forests and meadows.
The Circuit du Venec is an easy, self-guided circular trail of around 6 kilometres, with a walking time of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, and 16 stops providing information about the biodiversity of Venec. In summer, the Maison de la Réserve naturelle in the centre of Brennilis welcomes visitors and provides information about the Venec moorland and the animal species that live there.
History and Culture
The Église Notre-Dame in Brennilis dates from the late 15th century; the year 1485 is inscribed near the main altar. The church and the calvary cross in the cemetery were classified as historic monuments by a decree dated 12 November 1914.
The Alignement des menhirs de Leïtan in Brennilis is an archaeological site dating from protohistory. The approximately 40-metre-long arrangement consists of five granite menhirs; only one of them is still standing, and it is approximately 3 metres high.
The Circuit véloroute de Brennilis leads to a stop where the Neolithic dolmen Ti ar Boudiged can be visited. Ti ar Boudiged is a V-shaped Neolithic burial site and is considered the best-preserved monument from this period in the area around the Yeun Elez.
