Baye: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The parish of Baye, referred to as “Plebs Beia”, has been documented since the 11th century. To this day, a dense succession of churches, crosses, fountains and historic buildings bears witness to the long development of the village.

Culture and history

The parish church of Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens was rebuilt between 1842 and 1850 on its original site. Its floor plan follows a Latin cross, while the bell tower dates from the 17th century.

Several stone monuments also form part of Baye’s historic character: the Kerlouret Cross, also known as Kerloret, dates from the 17th century. The Croix du Leing, also known as the Croix de la lande de Baye, was likewise created in the 17th century and restored in 1897.

The former rectory, dating from 1847–1848, now houses Baye Town Hall. The Saint Cornely et Saint Eloi fountain is located in the village centre. Baye’s cultural heritage also includes the Locquillec fountain, which may also be known as the Saint Illec fountain. The Kermorial manor house dates from 1786.

The village of Locquillec retains a still clearly recognisable structure inherited from the past, as well as remains and works dating from the Iron Age to the 19th century. A hemispherical stele located southwest of Locquillec dates from the Iron Age.

Local life

Instant Show'Co runs an atelier-boutique at 196 rue Jean-Marie Carer in Baye, where visitors can discover chocolates, biscuits and other confectionery; the products can also be ordered online. In its workshop in Baye, Instant Show'Co also offers chocolate-making classes, including a class for creating individually designed chocolate bars and delicious treats.

The “Boucle de Baye” circular walking route is 6 km long and takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Further perspectives

Nearby Baye, Quimperlé is less than a 10-minute drive away. The town is known as a “Ville d’Art et d’Histoire” and has a historic centre. Pont-Aven is located around 10 km from Baye. The town is known as the “City of Painters” and has a museum tracing its artistic history.
