Saint-Nicolas-Du-Pélem: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Saint-Nicolas-du-Pélem combines nature observation, historical sites and paths with different ways of exploring. Its distinctive features can be seen both in the landscape and in buildings, local traditions and collections.

Nature

In the Faoudel Valley, the path follows the former Saint-Nicolas-du-Pélem–Guingamp railway line. Today, it is closed to motorised vehicles and is a route for walking or cycling.

From the Moulin du Rocher, the path runs along the river through a green setting in the Faoudel Valley and is suitable for an easy family outing on foot.

The Beaucours communal forest has numerous paths and preserves traces of the former activities of charcoal burners. A path through the forest leads to the Rocher de Guingamp, a rock that once offered shelter to members of the resistance.

The pond in Beaucours Forest attracts otters and birds such as herons. Clumps of the protected royal fern species grow beside the pond.

The GR de Pays “Mein ha dour” has been developed since 2020 through the joint commitment of elected representatives from ten municipalities, including Saint-Nicolas-du-Pélem.

History

The Château du Pélem was built in 1622. Its turrets can be seen from the specially laid path at the foot of the building; direct access to them is prohibited.

The Chapelle Saint-Éloi is a remarkable Gothic granite building from the 15th century and contains a medieval child’s sarcophagus. During the historic Pardon de septembre at the Chapelle Saint-Éloi, horses and their owners were blessed in the church square before being led to the spring.

The Saint-Nicolas spring houses a statue of Saint Nicholas with three children.

Culture

The Bothoa School Museum has growing collections on the history of school and childhood, displayed in thematic exhibitions. It offers activities such as dictation exercises, guided tours, a walk along a sunken lane and the making of woodland toys.

The private manor house, inhabited by the de Boisboissel family, opens its grounds for guided tours every summer.
