Culture

The Église Saint-Pierre dates from the early 16th century and has a nave divided into seven sections with side aisles. The Chapelle Saint-Jean de Keramanac’h dates from the 15th century; the present chapel replaced a chapel founded in the 12th century by the Order of Malta, with a small hospital. The Chapelle Saint-Jean de Keramanac’h is located along the former Brest–Paris road.

The Chapelle Sainte-Jeune stands on the site of an ancient Roman fortification. The year 1573 is inscribed on the gable of the south window, while the paving dates from 1711. The bell tower of the Chapelle Saint-Luvan, also known as Saint-Lavant, was listed by decree of 20 January 1926.

History

The former Vallée paper mill site extends across Belle-Isle-en-Terre and Plounévez-Moëdec. It has been renovated and restored. The Papeteries Vallée site is a historic site and an industrial location; it conveys industrial history, art, collective memory and the environment.

At the Kernansquillec site, there is a permanent exhibition entitled “Mémoire de la Vallée des Papeteries”. The family walk “La Saga de Kernansquillec” tells the history of the locations at 14 stops and combines natural, industrial and human heritage.

Nature

The treasure hunt “Le diable en rit encore à Kernansquillec” is a GPS treasure hunt in the great outdoors and follows a 5 km route along the wild Léguer River. Kernansquillec was the first dam in France to be dismantled on a salmon river. The Kernansquillec valley bears the “Rivière Sauvage” label.

The Kernansquillec fly-fishing course is located in a Natura 2000 area, has been awarded the “Parcours Passion” designation and has been operated entirely according to the no-kill principle since 2019. There are eight signposted access points to the riverbanks along the course.
