Lamballe: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Lamballe reveals its history particularly impressively at the Haras National de Lamballe: the stud farm was founded in 1825 and covers six hectares. A guided tour provides an insight into its history and present-day activities. It includes two exceptional tack rooms and an important collection of horse-drawn carriages. The Haras is also home to the Musée Mathurin Méheut, dedicated to the artist Mathurin Méheut, who was born in Lamballe. During guided tours or workshops, visitors can also experience Breton draft horses and Postier Breton horses up close.

Culture and History

Lamballe’s historic architecture includes the Collégiale Notre-Dame-de-Grande-Puissance. It was originally built as the chapel of the Penthièvre castle and became a collegiate church in 1435. Its architecture features Romanesque and Gothic elements.

The Church of Saint Martin in Lamballe was founded in 1084 by monks from Marmoutiers near Tours. Following its restoration in 2010, it displays traces of medieval frescoes as well as 18th-century altarpieces and statues.

Nature and Walks

A 13-hectare pond lies in the center of Lamballe. A circular path invites visitors to walk and cycle there. The Frédéric Le Grand walking route through Lamballe is 2.4 kilometers long and takes around two hours.

Market and Breton Specialties

Lamballe’s market takes place on Thursday mornings and Sunday mornings at the Place du Champ de Foire. Local producers offer Breton specialties such as galette-saucisse and crêpes, along with traditionally produced cider and other regional products.

Lamballe is served by both TGV and TER trains.
