Saint-Judoce: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Saint-Judoce combines a water-shaped northern edge of the village with hiking trails and architectural heritage dating from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.

Landscape

To the north, Saint-Judoce is bordered by the Canal d’Ille-et-Rance and the Linon. The municipality’s most densely wooded bocage landscape lies along the northern canal, while open, agriculturally used areas predominate in the centre and south of Saint-Judoce. The Linon at Vieux-Bourg is described as a shady river course.

Churches and History

The present-day Saint-Judoce church in Champ-Brossard was built between 1922 and 1923 by the architect Arthur Regnault. It houses polychrome wooden statues of Saint Judoce and Saint Marguerite and is considered one of the few examples of 20th-century religious architecture in the Côtes-d’Armor département.

The former parish church of Saint-Judoce in Vieux-Bourg is already mentioned in a deed of gift from the mid-12th century. It was largely rebuilt in the 14th century. Preserved features include a western portal, an open bellcote with a pierced cross formed by four crescents, and a trefoil tracery window in the choir. The southern door bears an inscription from the late 15th century: “DIEX PARDOINT A VILLECMER”. Since 10 November 1925, it has been partially protected as a Monument historique.

Manor Houses

The manor house of Champsavoy is considered representative of the manor houses built by the lesser nobility in the 16th and 17th centuries, owing to its location and preserved residential building. The estate was surrounded by moats; one of them still separated the courtyard of the residential building from the farmyard to the north in the 1950s. After being devastated during the Wars of Religion between the late 16th and early 17th centuries, the manor house was rebuilt.

The manor house of Fournet was completely rebuilt in the early 18th century in connection with the wedding of Pierre-Hyacinthe du Fournet and Marie-Melaine de Farcy on 11 February 1734. Its entrance portal is considered an elegant and remarkable work of art and was probably made by the workshops of the Paimpont forges. The estate includes an enclosed courtyard protected by moats, a chapel and farm buildings; a barn has been preserved.

Waterside Trails

The Circuit du Linon begins at the Saint-Judoce church. The 14 km hiking trail has an estimated walking time of 4 hours and 30 minutes, reaches the towpath and leads to a bridge in Vieux-Bourg.

The Circuit des 3 Villages crosses the metal bridge in Vieux-Bourg; from there, hikers can see the former church of Saint-Judoce. Along the trail, the tranquil meanders of the Linon come into view; nearby, there is a pleasant place to take a break at a picnic table.

The Circuit du Vieux Bourg runs along the Canal d’Ille-et-Rance for a long stretch and includes the old centre of Saint-Judoce.

The CARABO brasserie offers direct sales at its brewery in Saint-Judoce every Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. CARABO beers are part of a local and regional production chain.
