History

Saint James was one of the most significant hamlets in historic Tressaint. Village activity developed around Saint-James; in the 19th and 20th centuries, public facilities such as a town hall-school and a war memorial were established there. Late historical records from the 17th century concerning Tressaint use Saint-James as the spelling for the village or hamlet.

An ancient Roman road from Corseul to Rennes still runs through Saint-James. The former Saint-James Chapel is also part of the history of the place: it was completely demolished in 1698, and stones from the former chapel were reused in the construction of the sacristy in the same year.
