Saint-Carné: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The canalised Rance borders Saint-Carné to the northeast near the Pont-Perrin lock.

Landscape and Trails

At the edge of a plateau stands the Château du Chêne-Ferron, overlooking the Rance. The circular trail “Au cœur des vallées et des villages” runs through a natural and peaceful landscape. The restored lock keeper’s house at Pont-Perrin belongs to Type 3 of the lock houses along the Canal d'Ille-et-Rance and is a two-storey rectangular building.

History and Architectural Heritage

The oldest parts of the Château du Chêne-Ferron visible from the outside date from the late 16th or early 17th century. South of the Château du Chêne-Ferron stands the medieval Croix du Chêne, a monolithic granite wayside cross beside the road. La Mancelais preserves structural elements that may date from the 16th century, including the stair tower and the hall fireplace.

The parish church of Saint-Pierre preserves a lateral bell tower dating from the second half of the 17th century; the year 1666 is inscribed on a window lintel. Northeast of the church, a former dwelling housed the tax administration of Saint-Carné and the neighbouring municipalities of Lanvallay, Quévert, Aucaleuc, Trélivan and Léhon until 1835.

Village and Activities

The village of Saint-Carné has an old layout with several rows of houses forming rural lanes. In the Bois du Tertre, the fitness trail features a 30-metre zip line, obstacles, balance beams and climbing walls.
