Paimpol: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Paimpol makes its maritime history visible at specific locations: in the Halle Maritime, at the port, in the city’s pedestrian streets and along the GR®34 customs path to Pointe de Guilben.

Culture

The Halle Maritime is a cultural venue for exhibitions, conferences and live performances, and presents various exhibitions throughout the year. It was built in 1864 with a façade in the style of Napoleon III as a market hall where the sailors’ wives sold fish caught by their husbands in Icelandic waters.

History

After the period of cod fishing in Newfoundland and Iceland, the port of Paimpol redirected its activities towards fishing and recreational boating. It has two basins, completed in 1884 and 1902. A guided tour of Paimpol’s maritime history takes place in the city’s pedestrian streets. The Dalmard Marine workshop has been open to visitors since May 2021. The family business Dalmard Marine has existed since 1922 and is now run by the fourth generation under Maxime Dalmard.

Townscape

Paimpol’s historic centre features narrow lanes and imposing shipowners’ houses. The Place du Martray is home to numerous 16th-century houses. Paimpol’s market extends across the Place du Martray, the Halles, the Vieille Tour, as well as the Rue Saint Vincent and the Rue de l’Eglise.

Coast and Nature

Beauport Abbey was founded by the Premonstratensian Order by the sea in 1202 and can be explored through tours and walks. The GR®34 customs path leads from the port of Paimpol towards Beauport Abbey and on to Pointe de Guilben. This is a long tongue of land and rock projecting into the sea. At low tide, it offers views of extensive sandy areas.

The Petit Train Paimpolais offers a narrated tour showcasing large parts of Paimpol’s maritime area. Its route includes the port of Paimpol and Poulafret Bay with its biodiversity. From Pointe de Guilben, it offers views of both bays.
