Lohuec: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Lohuec combines nature, geology and architectural heritage in settings ranging from prehistory to rural cultural history. The Aulne rises in the Monts d'Arrée within the municipality of Lohuec, flows through Finistère and, after around 144 kilometres, empties into the Rade de Brest.

Nature and geology

The Carrière du Milin ar Stang in Lohuec is recorded as a geological site of interest under inventory number BRE 0041. Basic volcanic lava flows with a clearly pronounced pillow-lava structure are exposed there. The site is considered the only accessible location in inland Brittany where the pillow structure of a Palaeozoic volcanic outflow in an aquatic environment can be seen.

From Lohuec, take the road towards Morlaix to reach the Carrière du Milin ar Stang. After 700 metres, turn towards the Ster valley; the signposted quarry is approximately 500 metres farther on. Prior permission is required for access. School and tourist visits have occasionally taken place there.

Hiking and playful exploration

The Circuit des moulins leads to the source of the Aulne in the hamlet of Pen Aon and is designated as an easy hike lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Culture and history

The Allée couverte de Kernescop in Parc-ar-Pouldu is a Neolithic covered passage. It is considered a series of dolmens that served as a communal burial site during the Neolithic period. By decree of 25 January 1964, the Allée couverte de Kernescop was classified as a historic monument.

The Church of Saint-Judoce has large arcades in the nave dating from the second half of the 14th century and a portal from the second half of the 15th century. Its fabric also includes a west façade from the first half of the 16th century and a bell tower from the 18th century. Since 17 December 1926, the church has been partially protected as a historic monument.

The Moulin Quelen already existed before the French Revolution; the years 1610 and 1672 are engraved in the stones of its façade. The complex also includes a bread oven and a small museum in which the miller's room has been reconstructed.

Lohuec is home to the stone devotional fountain Fontaine de dévotion (Lohuec). It features sculptural decoration depicting a saint.
