Le Faouët reveals traces of history right on site: in the Notre-Dame chapel in Kergrist (Le Faouët), the painting “Ascension du Christ” is attributed to the painter Jean Blévin and dated to 1773.

Culture and History

The chapel of Kergrist and its cross in Le Faouët are listed as protected historic monuments in the Côtes-d'Armor department. The 16th-century calvary of Keruzal is also impressive and is considered the oldest calvary in Le Faouët. Its front depicts a crucifixion, while its back shows the Descent from the Cross.

In the Poul-Jaudour Valley, at the site of Milin Touf, lie the foundations of the former Kergoc grain mill, dating from the 17th to 18th century. Today, the remains are covered with mosses and ferns.

The Circuit Tro vale ar Faoued circular route starts at the church car park in Le Faouët. It is 12.3 kilometres long, rated as moderately difficult, and takes around three hours.

Along the Poul Jaudour stream, the Circuit Tro vale ar Faoued includes a botanical section featuring locally typical plant species such as oak, beech, yew, bracken and bluebells.

Traces in the Surrounding Area

In the area around Le Faouët, numerous hidden remains from the Gallo-Roman period recall the Roman road between Saint-Brieuc and Tréguier.

The Château de Boisgelin is located in the immediate vicinity of Le Faouët. The surrounding area also includes L'Abbaye Maritime de Beauport, Île Lemenez, Île Mez de Goëlo, Le Taurel island and the historic site Peter II Castle.
