Vaux is home to the Church of Saint-Eloi, a Romanesque religious building dating from the 12th century. The west façade is divided by two arcades and is shaped like a bell gable. The church was built from red sandstone on a rectangular ground plan with a semicircular apse.

Culture and Architectural History

The Château des Trillers is a manor house in the style of the second half of the 19th century.

By the water stands the Vaux Canal Bridge, which was built between 1825 and 1828 and spans the Magieure with three arches. Its restoration was completed in September 2018. It also included a fish pass to restore the ecological continuity of the Magieure.

The Chantemerle Canal Bridge near Vaux is a 27-metre-long stone bridge over the Magieure with three arched openings. The Chantemerle lock keeper’s house in Vaux was one of nine houses built between 1822 and 1826 under the direction of the engineer Aunier. The difference in elevation between the two canal reaches at Chantemerle is just over 3 metres, making it the greatest among the 95 locks on the Canal de Berry.

The Voie verte du Canal de Berry is an approximately 20-kilometre-long cycle route between Montluçon and Vallon-en-Sully and passes by the Vaux Canal Bridge.

The PR6 Circuit Le sentier des Vignes is an easy 6.9-kilometre hike lasting approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. In Vaux, this circular route is signposted at Place Saint-Eloi and Place de l’Église.
