Chouvigny: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Chouvigny is located above the Gorges de la Sioule. When planning a trip, you may wish to rent a holiday apartment in Chouvigny.

Landscape

In the Landes de Péraclos, the megalith is made of mica schist. Interpretations range from differential erosion caused by the Sioule to an object shaped by humans during the Neolithic period.

The Chemin des Murailles hiking trail leads from a point below the town hall via a small staircase to a cross overlooking the Gorges de la Sioule and the Château de Chouvigny.

Culture

The Château de Chouvigny is a 13th-century castle on a rocky promontory in the heart of the Gorges de la Sioule. The château is a privately owned historic estate that is open to visitors in summer.

During visits to the Château de Chouvigny, a collection of medieval weapons and armour can be viewed in the manor house.

Activities

Canoeing is one possible activity in the Gorges de la Sioule. The half-day tour “Descente Demi-Journée: Chouvigny > Ebreuil” is an 11-kilometre canoe route from Chouvigny to the body of water at Ebreuil and takes between 2 hours 30 minutes and 4 hours.

On this half-day tour, participants are taken by bus to the canoe starting base in around 15 minutes after receiving their equipment.

The “Rando-Canoë n° 1 Ébreuil à Chouvigny” combines a hike from Ébreuil to the entrance of the Gorges de Chouvigny with the return journey on the river by canoe.
