The Rochebut Reservoir extends across Mazirat and Teillet-Argenty and is fed by the Cher and the Tardes. It lies in a gorge area and has a wild character shaped by steep slopes. When planning a trip, you may wish to rent a holiday apartment in Mazirat.
Nature and Bodies of Water
At the Rochebut Reservoir, there is a slipway on the Saint-Marien peninsula, accessible from Mazirat via Entraigues. The Rochebut Dam also has a slipway, an access road, and a car park. The fishing area bears the “Parcours Passion” label.
The protected and endangered Gabel-Azurjungfer (Cordulie à corps fin, Oxygastra curtisii) was observed in 1996 at the Gué de Sellat on the Cher; its reproduction was also confirmed there. The European bullhead (Chabot, Cottus perifretum) was documented at the Cher near the Gué de Sellat in earlier times.
Hiking
The Les Dames de Charly circular hiking trail is a 7.4-kilometre walk starting in Mazirat. The route leads to the Gué de Sellat and offers views of the Cher from elevated locations. In addition, the GR41 des Gorges du Cher comprises 74 kilometres of marked trails between the Gué de Sellat in Mazirat and Epineuil-le-Fleuriel on the border with the Cher département.
Water Activities
The Mazirat water sports centre is located at the Rochebut Reservoir. The Club motonautique de Rochebut also allows non-members to enjoy water skiing, monoskiing, slalom, trick skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing – either recreationally or competitively.
Culture and Townscape
The Fontaine Saint-Martin in Mazirat is part of the “Petit patrimoine” (minor heritage). The Église Saint-Martin was built in 1883 and has a stone spire and a carillon with three bells. Its stained-glass windows depict Saint Martin, Saint Radegund, Saint Marien, Saint Abdon, and Saint Sennen.
