Rocher du Pas de la Mule is a nationally classified protected site in Braize. Access to this site is free. It is associated with local legends about the hoofprint of a female mule, including the story of Saint Martin’s mule and another legend about the devil.
Braize is one of the municipalities where the Forêt domaniale de Tronçais is located. The forest is open to the public and offers numerous hiking trails for walking and cycling.
Culture
The Église Saint-Antoine is a 12th-century church with architectural features associated with the buildings of the Templars. It can be visited independently using an information leaflet.
The Pôle Asin Bourbonnais includes a museum dedicated to donkeys. For groups of eight or more, it offers guided tours by prior reservation. The Asinerie du Tremble in Braize produces Bourbonnais donkey milk and welcomes visitors by appointment, subject to the owners’ availability.
Events
The traditional Foire aux Ânes in Braize includes a donkey competition and a hike with donkeys; the animals are led, used as pack animals or ridden.
Trails
Braize is located on the Way of Saint James between Saint-Bonnet-de-Tronçais and Ainay-le-Château. The Sentier des Muletiers leads to an encounter with the “Âne de Braize” and connects Ainay, Saint-Bonnet and Braize.
