Château de Paray is a residence flanked by towers dating from the late 16th century, which was remodelled in the 18th century. For some travellers, planning a trip to Paray-le-Frésil includes the desire to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture and History
At Château de Paray, a square tower and a round tower mark the southeastern and southwestern ends, respectively. The façades and roofs of Château de Paray and its outbuildings have been listed as historic monuments by decree of 18 December 1981.
The Maison à pans de bois has been listed as a historic monument by decree of 30 June 1987. It has four half-timbered walls and is considered typical of the rural architecture of Sologne bourbonnaise.
The Church of Saint-Didier was built in 1878 by the architect Jean-Baptiste Moreau from Moulins. Its eastern part is an extension of a sanctuary whose origins date back to the 16th or 17th century.
Landscape and Water
Paray-le-Frésil is one of the municipalities within the 22,237-hectare Sologne bourbonnaise Natura 2000 site (FR8312007). The Canal latéral à la Loire shipping canal runs through Paray-le-Frésil.
In the wider regional area, Sologne bourbonnaise is a flat bocage landscape with flowing waters, ponds, deciduous and coniferous forests, arable land, meadows and heathland.
Nature and Cycling
The Balade autour de la Loire is a 15.7-kilometre circular route that begins in Paray-le-Frésil and is recommended for cyclists, including occasional riders. It follows small roads to the Pont des Seguins, which overlooks the canal.
In the immediate vicinity, the Balade autour de la Loire passes through Garnat-sur-Engièvre to the Réserve Naturelle du Val de Loire bourbonnais nature reserve; a small footpath leads to the river.
