Culture

The Église Saint-Marcel is a Romanesque building from the 12th century with a three-bay nave, side aisles, an apse and two apsidioles; it is also listed as a historic monument. It stands at the summit of a hill on a slope running from north to south along the Sioule Valley. From the chevet, the panorama extends far to the east, north and south.

In the wider regional surroundings of Bayet lies Chouvigny Castle, a historic site. Billy Castle, also a historic site, is located near Bayet.

Waterways and Paths

The Étang de Gouzolle can be reached by vehicle via a ford when the water level is low; from the Saint-Pourçain side, a footbridge provides access all year round. The pond is rich in fish: carp weighing more than 10 kilograms, as well as pike, perch, zander and largemouth bass, are regularly stocked there or caught there.

The Voie Verte du Val de Sioule currently offers a 17-kilometre route between Gannat and Bayet, largely following the former route of the railway line inaugurated in 1932. It is exclusively intended for non-motorised travel and is suitable for cycling, walking and family-friendly outings with a pushchair.

Events

The Fête Patronale is a village festival in Bayet featuring various activities and attractions on site. It includes a festive meal offered by prior reservation.

Local Markets

The Marché d'été à Bayet offers opportunities to meet local producers and artists and to discover authentic, high-quality products. In spring and summer, Bayet also hosts a series of local producers' markets: on 3 May, 7 June, 5 July and 2 August, each from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the town centre.
