The Gorges du Cher are home to typical reptiles, birds of prey and butterflies, as well as rare protected species such as the yellow-bellied toad and the greater horseshoe bat.

For cyclists, the route “Les Gorges du Cher: d'une rive à l'autre” passes in the immediate vicinity of Lignerolles’ climbing rock and the via ferrata there.
Culture and history
The historic Petit Cougour fountain washhouse in Lignerolles is being gradually restored by volunteers. The historic Couvent Saint-Bernard Montluçon site is located in the vicinity of Lignerolles.
In the wider regional surroundings of Lignerolles are the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Bellaigue monastery and the historic Abbaye Notre-Dame de Bonlieu site. Also located in the wider regional surroundings are the Le Puy Haut hill and the Les Pierres Jaunâtres hill.
The local dialect saying of Lignerolles is “Au paï dau z-alhan é dau razî” and means “in the land of oaks and grapes”.
