Birac-Sur-Trec: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Château de Birac is a quadrangular fortress built in a valley at the beginning of the 16th century.

Buildings

The Château de Birac mainly retains its surrounding walls and various buildings, including a bastion, towers, and an entrance pavilion. The ruins of Château de Birac, including the foundations and the dovecote of the former manor farm, have been listed as a historic monument by decree of 9 December 1993.

The Pigeonnier de Bourdieu dates approximately from the turn of the 17th to the 18th century. It was listed among the possessions of the Birac seigneur François de Narbonne in 1715. The dovecote has eight dressed-stone pillars and a half-timbered upper floor.

The Church of Saint George is believed to have been built in the 16th century. It has a three-aisled nave with wood paneling, preceded by a bell tower and followed by a transept and a five-sided, rib-vaulted apse.

Route and Landscape

The “Birac-sur-Trec, des coteaux à la plaine de Garonne” route begins in the car park opposite Birac-sur-Trec town hall and is a circular route marked in yellow.

In the first foothills of the Marmandais hills, the route reaches an elevation of 130 metres before descending into the Garonne Valley along sandy paths.
