Ruffiac: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
Ruffiac lies amid green, gently rolling valleys. The Ruisseau du Mayne Néou flows through the commune; Ruffiac is also located in the vicinity of the Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park.
When planning a trip to Ruffiac, searching for a holiday apartment may be part of the preparations.
Culture and history
Ruffiac’s cultural heritage includes the church of Bachac. In the Saint-Martin de Bachac chapel in Ruffiac, the painting “Visitation” is located above the main altar. It is a copy made in 1852 by J. Schmitz after a painting by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo; the original is located in the Louvre. Since 3 December 1975, the painting has been listed as a protected object.
The Saint-Martin-de-Bachac church in Ruffiac also contains a carved wooden panel with an inscription. The panel is set into the floor in the northeastern part of the nave. The wooden panel inscription was described as an inscription of which no other example was known, at least in the Bazadais. Its text appears to reproduce the fourth stanza of Malherbe’s “Stances à Du Perrier”, written in 1599 for a nobleman from Aix after the death of his daughter.
Paths and historical traces
The circular route “From Ruffiac Castle to Poussignac Church” begins in Ruffiac and passes the ruins of Lacurade. Ruffiac is also located along the route of a Roman road.
