Anthé: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Anthé is situated mostly on dry limestone plateaus. To the north, the town is bordered by the Boudouyssou Valley, while the Ressegayre stream runs through Anthé.

When planning a trip, the desire to rent a holiday apartment in Anthé may be the main consideration.

History

In the Middle Ages, settlement in Anthé became concentrated around the parish church of Saint-Pierre and a castrum, which was captured in 1212 during the Albigensian Crusade.

Architectural Heritage

The Château de Sainte-Foy d’Anthé is a Gascon castle in the form of a massive, defensive military quadrilateral. It has four towers, including three square towers and one round tower.

In the grounds of the Château de Sainte Foy d’Anthé, a circular tour leads to a French formal garden parterre and a Renaissance gallery. Independent visits to the Château de Sainte-Foy d’Anthé are only possible by prior arrangement.

The Chapelle Sainte-Foy is the castle church of the Château de Sainte Foy d’Anthé, a Romanesque building from the 11th century made of limestone rubble typical of the Quercy Blanc. It was built in the 11th century on land that the Gascon lord of Sainte Foy granted to a group of monks from Conques Abbey.

The Église Saint-Pierre d’Anthé was completely restored on the outside in the 1990s. Fragments of Romanesque walls made of small-format, hewn limestone masonry, as well as two capitals of the triumphal arch datable to the 12th century, appear to have survived from the Église Saint-Pierre d’Anthé.

A circular trail from the church leads to the remarkable Roucou oak tree.

Agriculture

The main agricultural activities in Anthé include growing cereals in the valleys and fruit cultivation on the slopes, particularly growing plums for prunes.
