Holiday Apartment in Prakšice – History, Nature and Experiences
A holiday apartment in Prakšice is ideal for a trip that combines local history, nature and active pursuits. The village lies in a valley along two streams, has a history of viticulture and folklore, and combines these themes with a cycle path, nature park and motocross track. Depending on your interests, you can therefore make historical traces, the landscape or sporting experiences the focus of your plans.
Holiday Apartment in Prakšice: History and Viticulture
The first surviving written mention of Prakšice dates from 1141 and appears in a document issued by Jindřich Zdík, Bishop of Olomouc. Viticulture also has a long history: Before 1620, Prakšice had 81 měřic of vineyard area, and viticulture continued to develop in the 15th and 16th centuries. The historic wine-growing area of Stará Hora is now called Staré vinohrady. Later, vineyards were also planted in Nová hora; this area is now part of the village area known as Vinohrady.
The landscape gives the village a clear connection to nature. Prakšice lies on the banks of the Holomňa and Prakšický potok streams in a valley surrounded by deep forests on two sides. The Prakšická vrchovina borders the village and is designated as a nature park with diverse flora and fauna. When choosing your accommodation, this combination of valley, forest and nature park may be an important consideration if you do not want to spend your days exclusively on cultural or sporting activities.
Church, Festivals and Living Traditions
The Church of Christ the King in Prakšice was solemnly consecrated on 22 June 1941 and renovated between 1998 and 2001. The municipality is also home to the still-living folklore tradition of the Prakšické krojované hody s právem. At the Pašovsko-prakšické hody, the costumed festival group took part in a procession on Sunday morning to a mass at the Church of Christ the King in Prakšice. The period between the church’s consecration and renovation thus spans more than five decades.
Cycle Path and Motocross Track
Prakšice is connected to the surrounding area by a cycle path. For active days, there is also the Prakšice motocross track, with varied terrain, elevation changes, jumps and banked curves. The track is used for motocross races and sporting events. If you would like to train there, you must arrange this by telephone with the operator before entering.
Several water reservoirs also belong to Prakšice. This revived the village’s historic tradition of pond management and fishing. Today, members of the local Rybářský spolek Holomňa association take care of it. Together with viticulture, forest landscapes, the church and folklore, this creates a multifaceted picture of Prakšice that accommodates different travel preferences when looking for a holiday apartment.
