Holiday apartment in Hostějov – Chapel, viticulture and hiking
Hostějov combines a distinctive religious history with viticulture, hilly landscapes and trails through its cadastral area. The most prominent feature is a stone chapel whose history dates back to the 19th century. Together with several stone crosses, annual May pilgrimages and the traditional Štěpánská zábava celebration, they create a village character in which religious heritage and living tradition exist closely side by side.
Culture
The most significant monument in Hostějov is a four-sided stone chapel with a bell tower, a small altar and an image of the Mother of God dating from 1866. In 2003, the chapel was completely reconstructed and declared a local monument. Its religious significance is also reflected in its ceremonial dedication to Mary, Help of Christians, in May 2010. This dedication formed the basis for annual May pilgrimages.
Stone crosses outside the chapel also commemorate the history of the village. A stone cross dating from 1913 stands at the entrance to Hostějov. A second cross, from 1920, is located before the municipal boundary. At the end of Hostějov, in the direction of Osvětimany, stands a third stone cross dating from 1927. Hostějov also traditionally hosts the Štěpánská zábava celebration.
Landscape
The area around Hostějov is characterized by the hilly landscape of the Kyjovská pahorkatina region. This lies between the Chřiby mountain range and the floodplain of the Morava River. Hostějov’s location offers views across practically half of South Moravia. As a result, different landscape areas lie side by side in the village’s surroundings: the rolling hills of the Kyjovská pahorkatina, the Chřiby mountain range and the lower-lying Morava River plain.
Hiking
A green-marked hiking trail runs through the cadastral area of Hostějov. The surroundings of Hostějov are also suitable for hiking. The marked trail and the hilly landscape are therefore established elements of the local landscape and trail network.
Viticulture
Another historical trace leads back to the 18th century: viticulture developed on the estate at that time. Hostějov had 15 měřic of vineyards. Viticulture thus stands alongside the chapel, crosses and hiking trail as a distinct aspect of the village’s history.
