Holiday apartment in Stary Hrozenkov: Culture, Nature and Kopanice

Starý Hrozenkov combines folklore, historical landmarks and paths through the landscape of the White Carpathians.

Culture

Every year, Starý Hrozenkov hosts the Kopaničárské slavnosti, a traditional folklore festival. Music, dance, cimbalom music and other folk traditions are part of this event. Also every year, on 8 September, a pilgrimage celebration dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is held in the parish church in Starý Hrozenkov. It is associated with Hody and harvest festivals.

The parish church of the Virgin Mary itself is a late Baroque cultural monument dating from 1774. Another historical sight is the chapel by the pond in Starý Hrozenkov, which dates from the 17th century. Both sacred buildings are located in Starý Hrozenkov and belong to different periods.

Hiking

The Okolo Hrozenka educational trail is a 20-kilometre, moderately difficult hiking route. Along eight information panels, it provides information about the life and culture of the Moravian Kopanice in the past and present.

The Moravské Kopanice educational trail leads through the landscape around Žítková and Starý Hrozenkov. At 14 stops, it presents historical and natural sights as well as particularly valuable plants and animals. Its starting point is located in the village square of Starý Hrozenkov.

Nature

Starý Hrozenkov lies within the White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area and Biosphere Reserve. The natural areas mentioned include Hrozenkovský lom, also known as lom Skala. It is a natural area and the only place in the White Carpathians where columnar jointing of basalt can be observed.

Traditions

At the beginning of September, Hody and harvest festivals with a procession in traditional costumes through the village take place in Starý Hrozenkov. Historical agricultural machines and tools used by ancestors in their work in past centuries are displayed during the procession. The traditional costume of Starý Hrozenkov is characterised by cross-stitch embroidery and is considered one of the most interesting folk costumes in the Slovácko region.

The Hrozenkovské hody are also associated with the presentation of traditional products made by the Kopaničáři, as well as products from local organic farmers. Every year in mid-June, Starý Hrozenkov hosts a brass band festival with participants from Moravia and Slovakia.

Cycling

The Beskydsko-karpatská magistrála long-distance cycle route passes through Starý Hrozenkov. Thus, alongside the two educational trails, a regional cycle route is also part of the local paths and landscape connections.
