Dolní Němčí: Holiday Apartment, Culture and the White Carpathians

Dolní Němčí lies at the foot of the White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area. The town combines this connection to the surrounding landscape with a Neo-Gothic parish church, historic mill rooms, religious monuments, recurring festivals and a network of cycle paths connecting several prominent destinations in the surrounding area.

Culture

The Neo-Gothic parish church kostel sv. Filipa a Jakuba, built between 1870 and 1873, is central to the town's history. Three named bells hang in the tower: Svatý Prokop from 1733, Svatý Josef from 1949 and Panna Maria from 1954. The church is listed in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic (ÚSKP ČR).

Other religious landmarks include the Chapel of sv. Anny on the field path to Blatnice. It dates from 1830 and still serves religious processions every year. The statue of sv. Florián dates from 1777 and is also listed in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic. In 1970, it was moved to the park near the church.

History

The historical exhibits at Muzeum Na Mlýně are housed in the original living quarters of the former mill. In the former mill building, dating from the 18th century, an archaeological exhibition from the collections of Milan Daněk, who came from Dolní Němčí, was also established in 2020.

Another local puzzle activity is the Lucké hledačky. These trails lead to the secrets of Lucké Pole and also explore the question of why a road in Dolní Němčí once subsided. The Lucká hledačka comprises two questing routes that reach Dolní Němčí: Route A leads from Horní Němčí via Slavkov to Dolní Němčí, while Route B leads from Hluk to Dolní Němčí.

Traditions

Local customs include baking bread in a stone oven. Dožínky in Dolní Němčí takes place in mid-August once every four years. Hody s právem was first held in 1968 and takes place every two years; it ends with a Sunday Mass in the kostel sv. Filipa a Jakuba church.

“Vaření trnek” also combines local customs with regional cuisine. The event includes a folkloric afternoon with tastings. Muzeum Na Mlýně organizes this folkloric afternoon programme with tastings as part of “Vaření trnek”. In the grounds of Muzeum Na Mlýně in Dolní Němčí, plum butter, or Povidla, is traditionally cooked in a cauldron.

Nature and Trails

Dolní Němčí has a network of cycle paths connecting it with the White Carpathians, Luhačovice and the Baťa Canal. In addition, cycle route 5052 runs via Hradčovice, Dolní Němčí, Slavkov and Horní Němčí to Velká Javořina. This documents connections within the town area both to the landscape of the White Carpathians and to routes leading to Luhačovice, the Baťa Canal and onwards to Velká Javořina.

The DiscGolfPark in Hájek in Dolní Němčí has nine holes and is freely accessible. Hájek is also home to a workout area that is freely accessible to the public. Thus, alongside the cultural and historical sites, two explicitly public facilities are available in the town.
