Holiday apartment in Veletiny: Búdy and folk architecture

Veletiny displays its village history particularly clearly in the preserved forms of folk architecture. In the Stará hora area, there are 16 vineyard huts dating from the mid-19th century, protected as a monument of folk architecture. In 1995, the entire Búdy complex was declared a heritage conservation reserve by the Government of the Czech Republic. Veletiny has also preserved the oldest typological form of the Búdy.

Culture

A life-size sandstone statue of Saint Anthony stands in the village square of Veletiny. The history of the village also includes Tvrz Veletiny fortress. It was built by Záviš, who was known as Veletka of Veletiny and lived from 1365 to 1406. Remains of the oval fortification have survived; they were discovered during archaeological investigations.

There are seven crosses in the cadastral area of Veletiny. The newest cross stands beside a field path that climbs between the fields to the ridge between Veletiny and the Kojatínek forest. From the cross beside the field path near Kojatínek, there is a good panoramic view of Velký Lopeník, Velká Javořina, Buchlov, and the hills above Provodov.

Customs

Traditional dates are also part of the village’s cultural character. The Nošení Mařeny custom takes place regularly in Veletiny on Smrtná neděle Sunday. The Nové léto custom also takes place there regularly on the same Sunday. On Whit Sunday, the královničky procession also passes through Veletiny.

Landscape and trails

The wine-growing municipality of Veletiny extends at the foot of the slopes of the Hlucká Hills. The Uherskohradišťská wine trail runs through the village. A marked cycling route towards Vlčnov runs along the protected folk architecture reserve of Veletiny. In Veletiny, there is also an opportunity to have refreshments at a local inn.
