Holiday apartment in Bařice-Velké Těšany: Windmill, Chapels and Nature

Bařice-Velké Těšany: The windmill of Velké Těšany was declared a national cultural monument in 2014 and has been open to the public since 1979. It stands on the southwestern slope above the village, near the Chvaletiny forest and about 200 m from the road to the neighbouring municipality of Vrbky.

Culture

The Chapel of Saint Florian in Velké Těšany was completed in 1926 and dedicated to Saint Florian. Today, it is used for regular religious ceremonies; every year around Saint Florian’s Day, it is the centre of the local church fair celebrations. In front of the chapel, a war memorial was also erected in 1946 to commemorate the inhabitants who fell in the First and Second World Wars.

Bařice also has several independent memorial and religious sites. The chapel in Bařice is a listed building dating from 1909, erected on the site of an older wooden bell tower and dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on 24 October 1909. Every year on the second Saturday in June, a Mass with an accompanying programme is held in the chapel.

The statue of Panny Marie na Potokách in Bařice was consecrated on 13 June 1920 and restored in 2010. The cemetery cross from 1922 in Bařice is dedicated to the inhabitants who fell in the First World War. A repaired cross from 1904 was ceremonially consecrated on 3 October 1999 in a park at the lower end of the village. Victims of the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 and of cholera in Velké Těšany are buried beneath the stone cross from 1851 on the road to Těšnovice.

Nature

The landscape around Velké Těšany includes protected and clearly designated natural sites. The Memorial Linden of Velké Těšany is registered as a protected tree and stands on the road to Těšnovice. It is a popular destination for walks and a place to rest.

In the immediate surroundings, about 1 km north of Velké Těšany, lies the protected natural monument Obora on the gently wooded slope of the hill of the same name, also called Hvězda. West of Velké Těšany, on the edge of the Chřiby Hills, lies Skalka u Trňáku, a sun-exposed grassy embankment. The nearby Skalka u Trňáku can be reached from Velké Těšany via a field road towards the junction near Zlámanka and onwards towards Drahlov.

Routes

A cycle route has been described connecting the localities; it runs around Velké Těšany and connects Kroměříž with Bunč via Vrbka and Kostelany. In addition, the Stezky Severními Chřiby trail network offers information boards, signposts at trail junctions, viewpoints, benches and, in some places, educational elements for children.

Thus, religious sites, monuments, protected trees, natural monuments and a signposted trail network are all found within a small thematic area. Each destination retains its own character: the windmill is open to the public, the Chapel of Saint Florian is used for regular religious ceremonies, and Skalka u Trňáku can be reached via the aforementioned field road.
