Saar: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Saar combines sacred architecture, museum history and paths through nature. In Žďár nad Sázavou and around Zelená Hora, the spectrum ranges from a pilgrimage church and Baroque monuments to museums, a model railway layout and an educational trail.

Culture and History

The Pilgrimage Church of Saint John of Nepomuk on Zelená Hora is a star-shaped building from the early 18th century by Jan Blazej Santini, whose distinctive style lies between Neo-Gothic and Baroque. The main visitor route at the church leads from the main gate through the pilgrimage grounds into the church. In July and August, a special tour of this building includes the first and second floors.

A tour of Zámek Žďár explores the grounds of the former 13th-century Cistercian monastery through stories and architecture. The Regional Museum is housed in Tvrz čp. 276, one of the oldest buildings in Žďár nad Sázavou, built in the 14th or 15th century.

The New Generation Museum is a multimedia exhibition with plays of light and shadow, music and animated stories that conveys the 800-year history of the castle and its surroundings. The permanent exhibition in Moučkův dům takes visitors through the history of Žďár nad Sázavou, from the founding of the monastery in 1252 to the turbulent development in the 20th century. Moučkův dům is open year-round except Mondays.

Dolní hřbitov is a Baroque architectural monument built in the early 18th century according to a design by Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel. On the Baroque bridge in Žďár nad Sázavou, the eight statues of saints are dated by chronograms: seven statues to 1761 and the statue “sv. Metoděj” to 1766.

Modelové Království Žďár is dedicated to the construction and operation of a model railway layout considered one of the largest in the Czech Republic; it depicts real railway stations, buildings and landscape features.
