Jámy: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

At the edge of the municipality of Jámy begins the Cesta života, a trail with ten stations leading to the summit of Vejdoch. Jámy has direct bus connections to Žďár nad Sázavou, Mirošov and Dolní Rožínka.

Nature and trails

Each station of the Cesta života consists of a large stone depicting a principle of life and a QR code leading to an audio recording of a verse. At the summit of Vejdoch, between two lime trees, stands the three-metre-high sandstone sculpture of a cross called „Strom života“. From Vejdoch, 42 municipalities, 13 church towers, two observation towers and eight transmission masts can be seen.

History and culture

The first written mention of the settlement of Jámy dates from 1252; at that time, Boček and Sibyla transferred it to the newly established Žďár monastery. In the land register of 1470, Jámy was described as the monastic settlement with the largest area of fertile soil; it already comprised 31 predominantly larger agricultural holdings at that time. The first reports of the church in Jámy, dedicated to Saint Martin, date from 1672; it was founded by the monastic authorities.

In December 2017, the idea arose to create a lookout point on the 663-metre-high Vejdoch and to place a cross between the lime trees planted for the 50th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia; this was intended as a thank-you for the past 100 years. The municipality of Jámy considers the iron cross by the road to Žďár nad Sázavou one of the most beautiful crosses in the municipality.

Landscape

The lime tree na Kříbu in the cadastral area of Jámy was designated a memorial tree on 21 September 1995. It is an old, well-preserved tree with local historical significance and an important landscape-shaping function.
