Vlachovice lies at an altitude of 754 metres and is described as a typical mountain municipality in the Žďárské vrchy. Together with Rokytno, it is one of the municipalities there located at the second-highest elevation.
Altitude and landscape
Part of Vlachovice lies in the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. The Bobrůvka rises in the territory of Vlachovice u Rokytna in the Žďárské vrchy at an altitude of 725 metres.
Northwest of Vlachovice lies the Tři smrky elevation at 776 metres, directly on the European watershed between the Elbe and Danube river basins. The elevation offers panoramic views; in good visibility, Kralický Sněžník can also be seen. Bílá skála is designated as a viewpoint in Vlachovice at an altitude of 776 metres.
Hiking, cycling and cross-country skiing trails
Blue- and green-marked hiking trails run through Vlachovice. A less significant cycle path connects Fryšava, Medlovský rybník and Sykovec Pond.
On the cross-country skiing route from the Vysočina Arena via Vlachovice and Sykovec, a trail branches off at the “Sedlo” signpost near the Yukon settlement towards Rokytno and Penzion U Martina. This trail is groomed for both classic and skating styles.
History and regional architecture
Vlachovice was founded before 1496 in the territory of the Nové Město estate. The village is located in a region of folk architecture known as “HORÁCKÝ DŮM”. A site with archaeological finds is also located in part of Vlachovice.
