Bukov: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Historical traces shape Bukov. The Church of St. James the Greater, Kostel sv. Jakuba Většího, dates from around the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. It has a Gothic chancel as well as an altar with Baroque statues of Saint Barbara and Saint Catherine on either side. The chancel contains the gravestone of Jan Radešínský, who died in 1603. Three bells hang in the tower, the largest of which dates from 1530.

Culture and history

The Bukovský kámen is also part of the local memory: in 1926, it was incorporated into the monument to those who fell in the First World War. In the wider region around Bukov lies the Lísek castle ruin, formerly also known as Bukovec or Lejsek, which was probably built in the second half of the 13th century. The surviving remains include part of a large round late Romanesque tower as well as foundations and wall remnants of residential and farm buildings. The Zámek Veveří castle is also located in the wider region around Bukov.

Landscape

The Babylon and Víckov mountains are located in the immediate vicinity of Bukov. The Sýkoř and Ambrožný mountains are also located in the area around Bukov.

Getting around

Public bus route 841126 serves Bukov. For cycling, the “Zubří stezky – 5. Za Uranem” route runs via the Bukov/Lísek castle ruin and through Bukov.

Local life

In addition to firefighting duties, SDH Bukov is currently involved in cultural and sporting activities as well as work with children. Among other things, the association organizes sports afternoons, St. Nicholas celebrations, carnival events and Christmas parties for children. In the past, SDH Bukov organized dances, church fairs and balls; its members also founded a local amateur theatre.
