Býšovec: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes

The blue, 5.2-kilometer-long Pernštejn–Smrček–Nedvědice educational trail leads visitors to Smrček, a locality of the municipality of Býšovec. From the bus station in Smrček, the educational trail follows a forest path past an old Pernštejn marble quarry and the Roudné pits, over a hill to Nedvědice.

Landscape and Views

“Stráž,” a point in the guard system of Pernštejn Castle located on the summit of this hill, offers a view of Pernštejn Castle. The Pernštejn–Smrček educational trail leads to viewpoints with unusual views of Pernštejn Castle and the surrounding peaks.

History and Architectural Heritage

Býšovec is documented in a record from 1350. The seal of Adam of Býšovec from 1484 is considered the first evidence of the coat of arms of the lords of Býšovec. Jan of Býšovec and his wife Kateřina are mentioned in 1398; that year, Vilém of Pernštejn assigned them an allodial estate in Býšovec.

The chapels in Býšovec and Smrček also feature distinctive architectural details. The Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua in Smrček is crowned by a tall octagonal onion dome with a lantern. The Chapel of Saint Lawrence in Býšovec has an octagonal turret clad in galvanized sheet metal at the western end of the roof ridge.

The Hradní lom marble quarry lies below Hulákovy Hill along the route of the educational trail. During the major renovation of Pernštejn Castle, begun shortly before 1460, marble from this quarry near Smrček was used above all.

Further Activities

The important Vienna–Prague long-distance cycling route runs through Býšovec, allowing cyclists to ride from Vienna all the way to Prague. At the Smrček–Býšovec shooting range, hunters organize the traditional public shooting competition “O Pernštejnský pohár” every year. A private horse farm in Smrček offers the opportunity for horseback rides.
