Culture and history

The marquis and his family expanded Vilémov Castle over 22 years, transforming it from a Renaissance castle into a Baroque one. The castle and the adjoining park are intended for conferences, seminars and social events such as concerts, weddings, meetings and celebrations. Due to roof work, the castle is temporarily closed from 2026 to 2028 and will not accept reservations, events or weddings during this period.

The Church of Saint Wenceslas in Vilémov is a spacious Baroque single-nave building with a three-sided-closed presbytery and a medieval prismatic tower whose base is of Romanesque origin. It was built in 1726–1727. Another historical trace is the Evangelical Church in Vilémov, which was converted and consecrated in 1882 from a former factory producing Turkish shawls.

Only the foundations remain of the monastery in Vilémov, which was destroyed by the Hussites in 1421. In Jakubovice, a district of Vilémov, the so-called „Navel of Europe“ is represented by a stone menhir. At the military cemetery in Klášter, a wooden cross commemorates Austrian soldiers who died in a field hospital during the fighting and were buried there.

Cycling

Cycle route 5127 passes through Vilémov. It is a moderately difficult, hilly road route for racing bikes and trekking bikes.

Geographical location

Golčův Jeníkov město is named as the nearest town and railway destination for travelling to Vilémov Castle; trains run there from Prague Main Station via Kolín, Kutná Hora and Čáslav.
