Stojčín: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Stojčín lies on the slope of Číhalův vršek. There are many erratic boulders in the surrounding area, while the deep forests around the village offer opportunities for walking as well as collecting mushrooms and wild berries.

History and Villagescape

The first written mention of Stojčín dates from 1365. The village name was probably derived from the personal name Stojata, which is no longer in use today. A memorial to those who fell in the First World War stands on the village green.

One route towards Stojčín leads through a forest with a Way of the Cross consisting of 14 painted stations.

Railway and Architecture

An electrified railway line from Veselí nad Lužnicí to Jihlava runs through Stojčín. The line passing through the village was built in 1887; its electrification in 1979 marked the end of the era of steam locomotive services.

Počátky–Žirovnice railway station was completed in 1887 and has a major influence on the architecture of Stojčín. The station building and waiting room at this station are not accessible to people with disabilities.

Activities in the Surrounding Area

Stojčín has a renovated tennis court with changing rooms and showers. Several properly marked hiking trails run near Stojčín, including routes to Javořice, Telč, Slavonice, Strmilov, Jindřichův Hradec, Kamenice nad Lipou and Pelhřimov.

The hilly surroundings of Stojčín are suitable for cycling. The “Středem Vysočiny” cycle route begins at Počátky–Žirovnice railway station and reaches the summit of Javořice at kilometre 14.5.

Numerous ponds around Stojčín offer opportunities for swimming. A route accessible from Počátky near the Počátky–Stojčín railway stop mentions Velký Pařezitý rybník, which offers opportunities for swimming, camping and refreshments.
