Skrdlovice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The small U Hrocha glassworks in Škrdlovice is focused on glass tourism. Under the direction of master glassmaker Oldřich Šimpach, guided demonstrations of the production of hand-shaped glassworks are offered. By prior arrangement, interested visitors can make their own glass product under the guidance of a master glassmaker.

Culture and history

The former glassworks in Škrdlovice was founded by Emanuel Beránek in 1940 and ceased production in 2008. The history of the village therefore encompasses both its former glass production and today’s U Hrocha glassworks, which focuses on glass tourism.

Landscape

Škrdlovice is located in the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. The mountains of Žákova hora, Světka, Devět Skal and Rosička are situated in the surrounding area.

Activities

The Škrdlovický okruh is an easy cross-country skiing loop of around nine kilometres around Škrdlovice. It begins on the outskirts of Škrdlovice near the turn-off to the holiday-home area at Velké Dářko and is groomed for both skating and classic cross-country skiing.

A hiking trail through Škrdlovice passes through the village square by the Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius. Statues of these saints and a statue of Saint Wenceslas stand in the square in front of the chapel. The Škrdlovická trasa za skláři is a 35-kilometre cycling excursion that begins in Škrdlovice and follows in the footsteps of the former glassmakers.
