History and Culture

In the municipal area of Proseč stands a fortress with archaeological traces. It is a state-protected immovable cultural monument. It probably dates back to the late 14th century. It was presumably used exclusively for economic purposes together with the adjacent farmstead; after losing this function, the complex was finally abandoned.

A chapel in Proseč is designated as a monument of local significance.

Landscape

Proseč is located in the Křemešnická vrchovina, which is part of the Českomoravská vrchovina. The landscape is characterised by a varied hilly and highland terrain used for forestry and agriculture.

The Meziklaský potok flows northwards along the eastern and northern boundaries of the municipal area of Proseč. At its eastern boundary, Brádla Hill reaches just under 626 metres in height and lies above the G. Mahler Way.

Location and Routes

Proseč is located on road III/34761, approximately 10 kilometres north of Humpolec. The marked Rohule–Humpolec hiking route runs through the village from south to north. Another marked route, named after the composer Gustav Mahler, runs through Proseč in an east–west direction. In addition, cycle route No. 211 runs from Kaliště through Proseč onwards towards Záběhlice.

The Stezka poznání

The Stezka poznání is an approximately 130-kilometre-long, demanding educational route with 52 stations, 42 of which have information boards. It focuses on history, nature and sights and is intended for cyclists or motorised road users. The route ends in Proseč near Humpolec.
