Martínkov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The former fortress of Martínkov was first mentioned in 1368 and developed into a centre of radical Hussitism in Moravia.

History and Faith

The Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary has a medieval core with a Late Gothic polygonal chancel, a tower built in the second half of the 16th century, and a nave built in 1713. The early Baroque Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary is a prominent landmark of Martínkov and the surrounding area.

The parish church in Martínkov was repaired in 1671 and given a Baroque makeover in 1713. Since 1958, the parish church in Martínkov has been listed as an immovable cultural monument.

Culture and Community

The Václav Kosmák Museum in Martínkov presents an exhibition about Václav Kosmák, the priest, writer, translator and Czech national revivalist who was born in Martínkov. Excerpts from Kosmák’s biography are also on display at the museum.

The Jordán choir performs sacred, folk and folkloric music. Since 1987, the Džbánek and Martínek folklore ensemble has used materials from the Horácko region in its dances.

To this day, the Sokolovna remains an important meeting place for the social and cultural life of Martínkov.

Festivals and Events

The Martínkovské krojované hody festival has been celebrated since 1982. It includes a Sunday folklore procession and dance performances under the maypole.

The Pocta Emilu Zátopkovi event was first held in 2012; on 1 August 2026, the 15th edition of the Pocta Emilu Zátopkovi relay marathon took place in Martínkov.

Martínkov hosts the traditional Košt pálenek, a tasting of spirits. The Martínkovský duatlon is a sporting event held in Martínkov.

Places and Everyday Life

The Jordán pond is a noteworthy place in Martínkov. It is associated with a tradition that the Hussites baptised their children there.
