Nová Ves: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Nová Ves preserves a typical circular village square as a defining feature of the local townscape. Two ponds lie at its centre. The memorial to the victims of the First and Second World Wars stands between them.

Landscape and townscape

About 500 metres north of Nová Ves lies a flooded limestone quarry. The quarry north of the village is also a site where crystalline limestone has been found.

Active pursuits

Marked cycle route 162 passes through Nová Ves on the route between Třebíč and Jihlava. The Ranč Vápenka facility offers children and adults horse rides and riding opportunities.

History and places of remembrance

The first documented mention of Nová Ves dates from 1224 and appears in a charter issued by King Přemysl Otakar I. The village initially belonged to the Benedictine monastery in Třebíč. In 1556, King Ferdinand I transferred the Třebíč estate to Vratislav z Pernštejna as hereditary property.

The memorial to Jan Svoboda stands in the Větrovice forest in Nová Ves. It commemorates a member of the state police who was killed by German saboteurs on 11 May 1945.

Another historical discovery is associated with Žlíbek: during the construction of a road in 1904, remains of a mammoth skeleton were found there while the foundations for bridge piers were being excavated. Part of these mammoth remains is preserved at the Zapadomoravské muzeum v Třebíči.
