Culture and History

The oldest part of the hunting lodge in Kněževes is a medieval fortress preserved in late Gothic form, including remnants of the original interior plaster decoration. The hall of the hunting lodge has an exceptionally authentically preserved wooden-beamed ceiling with rich moulding and carvings.

The Regionální muzeum Horního Pooslaví is involved in the restoration and use of the hunting lodge in Kněževes nad Oslavou. It was founded on 1 January 2013 as a collecting, research and presentation museum and presents the history and natural heritage of the Upper Oslava region, particularly Radostínsko, Měřínsko and Křižanovsko.

Kněževes has been documented in writing since 1370 and belonged to the Mostiště estate in the 14th century. A chapel from the 18th century with a small bell tower stands in Kněževes; the altar painting depicts Saint Florian. A large stone cross dating from 1920 and wayside shrines, which shape the landscape of Kněževes as cultural landmarks, add to the town's historic traces.

Walking Route and Cycle Path

The Hřibový háj walking route begins in the village square of Kněževes. Numerous wooden mushroom sculptures stand there and accompany the route. The walking route is 3 km long, takes approximately 1 hour and is suitable for preschool children.

The Hřibový háj walking route includes the Na Kříbu viewpoint on the roof of a former water tower; from there, you can look out over Kněževes and Bohdalovsko Nature Park.

The signposted Mlynářská cycle path runs between Nové Město na Moravě and Kněževes and is 38.5 km long.

Landscape

The mountains of Dědkovská hora, Blažkov, Ambrožný and Rosička are located around Kněževes. Smetanovy sady Park lies in the wider regional surroundings of Kněževes.
