Nové Dvory combines the Neo-Gothic Chapel of the Virgin Mary in the centre of the village with a setting in the Sázava River landscape. Its architectural history and memorial sites give the village a clear historical focus. At the same time, a route from the summit of Peperek and KČT cycle route No. 19 pass through Nové Dvory. When planning a holiday, local history and the desire to go cycling are therefore two distinct considerations.
Chapel and Memorial Sites
The Neo-Gothic Chapel of the Virgin Mary stands in the centre of Nové Dvory. It was built in 1901 by the master builder Pecháček from Přibyslav. Pointed-arch windows define the side walls, and the façade has a narrow entrance with a pointed arch. The windows and entrance thus share the same architectural style. For travellers interested in religious architecture, the year it was built, the master builder’s place of origin and the specified architectural features offer a concrete way to explore the village’s history.
A memorial to those who fell in the First World War was unveiled immediately beside the chapel on 18 August 2013. On the chapel’s right-hand side, there is also a memorial to a Red Army soldier who died there on 14 May 1945. The two memorial sites refer to different wartime periods and are associated with the same central building. At the edge of the village stands a wayside cross which, according to a local resident, is said to have been moved there from a disused cemetery. This local account adds a story about the cross’s origins to the memorial sites.
The settlement was first mentioned in writing in 1444. In 1850, Nové Dvory was associated with the Polná estate. A religious tradition is also linked to the chapel: a municipal description from 2021 records a Mass celebrated annually on the third Sunday in August, giving thanks for the harvest and favours received. Routes and Travel Planning
A route descends from the summit of Peperek via Velká Losenice, Nové Dvory, Buková and Nížkov to Rosička. KČT cycle route No. 19, by contrast, follows the sequence Rosička, Nížkov, Buková, Nové Dvory and Přibyslav. One begins with the descent from the summit, while the other is explicitly designated as a cycle route. These offer different ways to include Nové Dvory in your day’s plans. In 2023, a bus stop area in Nové Dvory was renovated and the asphalt surface was renewed. If you are considering taking a bus, check the current timetables.
