Žirovnice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
The present-day Church of St. Philip and James in Žirovnice was completed in 1871 and built in the Neo-Gothic style. Its high altar was decorated with a painting of the holy apostles Philip and James by the Czech painter Karel Škréta.
Culture and history
At Žirovnice Castle, oil paintings by the academic painter Jan Havlík are displayed in the gallery. There is also an exhibition of 19th-century furniture interiors entitled “Květiny na šlechtickém sídle”. The granary presents agricultural machinery as well as various tools and equipment from rural life.
The history of the Žirovnice brewery dates back to 1544. The Žirovnice castle brewery houses an exhibition on button making and mother-of-pearl processing. It shows where and how mother-of-pearl is obtained, as well as mother-of-pearl machinery from the second half of the 19th century. The observation tower of Žirovnice Castle offers views of the surrounding landscape.
Outdoor activities
The “Po pamětihodnostech Žirovnice” educational trail follows a circular route from Žirovnice via Metánov, Stranná, Štítné, Vlčetín and Popelín back to Žirovnice. It is 27 kilometres long and suitable for pedestrians and mountain bikers.
The Budín natural swimming pool in Žirovnice has a large slide, a concrete table-tennis area, a nohejbal court and a streetball court. The Stations of the Cross in Žirovnice are located along the red-marked hiking trail between Žirovnice and Počátky in the “Ve Struhách” forest.

Křemení is a mountain in the immediate vicinity of Žirovnice. Hluboká, Kalcův vrch and Troják are mountains in the vicinity of Žirovnice. The ruins of Janštejn are also located in the vicinity. Svatý Ondřej is a church there.
