Heraltice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Heraltice originated in the 12th to 13th century as a parish settlement on the old road from Vienna to Prague. At Panský dvůr, small fragments of cellar rooms and fortifications belonging to the fortress of the Lords of Heraltice have been preserved.

Culture and History

The church in Heraltice, dedicated to Saint Giles, has a rectangular nave, a polygonally ended presbytery, and an axially arranged tower with a square ground plan. The oldest surviving parts are the presbytery and part of the nave; in 1716, the church was completely rebuilt in the Baroque style.

The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk near the church was created in 1738 by the sculptor D. Lipart from Brtnice. The statue of Saint Florian stands in the upper part of the village square. It commemorates the fact that the church survived the fire of 1761 unscathed. During the 1906 reconstruction, the former cemetery chapel and mortuary were replaced by a side aisle known as “Starý kostel”.

The Firefighting Museum is housed in a historic building constructed at the end of the 18th century, which stands on the remains of a former 13th-century fortress. A major extension of the Firefighting Museum was opened on 28 June 2014 to accommodate more exhibits.

The area around Heraltice is suitable for cycling. The dense forests around Heraltice are suitable for mushroom picking in autumn.

Heraltice lies away from the district’s main transport routes. As a result, it is quiet there all year round and free from heavy traffic.
