Kralice nad Oslavou is closely associated with the history of the Kralice Bible: the Kralice Bible Memorial stands beside the former fortress, where a secret printing press of the Unity of the Brethren found refuge from 1578 to 1620.
Culture and History
The printing press in Kralice nad Oslavou published more than 70 works by 1619, including the six-volume Kralice Bible. The Kralice Bible Memorial houses more than 4,000 original printing types, metal letters, spacing pieces, decorative elements, and printing tools. It also displays other exhibits found during archaeological investigations of Kralická tvrz.
The Church of St. Martin is the oldest building in Kralice nad Oslavou. Its present-day sacristy dates back to a free-standing pre-Romanesque chapel from the end of the 11th century. Wall paintings from around 1300 have been preserved at the end of the presbytery, including a depiction of Saint Martin sharing his cloak with a beggar.
