Volevčice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Volevčice combines a long local history with striking traces of sacred architecture and unusual natural features in the surrounding area. The first written record of Volevčice dates from 1333.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint Procopius has been a protected cultural monument since 7 October 2021. The single-nave church was built in 1840 on the site of a Gothic Church of Saint Gall. It combines a preserved, imposing late Gothic tower with a Neo-Romanesque nave and presbytery added asymmetrically to the tower in 1840.

The older settlement history can also be traced within the municipality: around the middle of the 13th century, a medieval settlement was established southwest of the present-day municipality, as confirmed by archaeological evidence. The abandoned settlement was buried beneath a layer of mud approximately 70 cm thick.

Nature and Landscape

Despite the development of nearby lignite mining in the 19th century, Volevčice remained an agriculturally oriented village. Near Volevčice lies Velká Volavka, an important site of halophilic flora and the only surviving location in the Most District where sea plantain (Plantago maritima) has been recorded. The salinization of the clay at the foot of Velká Volavka causes dwarfism in plants.

Leisure and Everyday Life

The local ice-skating rink is used as a football, nohejbal and volleyball court in summer. The library in Volevčice is open for borrowing on Thursdays from 5 to 6 p.m.

Transport and Timetables

Due to the complete closure of the bridge between Volevčice and Bečov, bus route 545 will not operate from 16 March 2026 to 31 October 2026. The Municipality of Volevčice provides a transport page with separate links to the ČD train timetables and bus timetables.
