Verneřice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Verneřice can be explored through its distinctive buildings, multifaceted local history, and striking natural surroundings. Between St. Anne’s Church, historic houses, the Leitenbergova kartounka textile printing works, and the Bobří soutěska gorge, a picture emerges in which religious architecture, craftsmanship, landscape, and regional transport history stand closely side by side.

Culture and Townscape

St. Anne’s Church, a Baroque and Rococo-era religious building, stands in the square in Verneřice. The first St. Anne’s Church in Verneřice was already mentioned as a parish church in 1384; since 3 May 1958, the church has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Mírové náměstí is also home to a fountain with a Baroque statue of Saint Florian and a ring of Doric columns dating from the first half of the 19th century.

Building History and Craftsmanship

House No. 6 stands in the settlement of Rytířov in Verneřice. It is a two-storey building with a traditional three-part floor plan. It has a living room built using log construction, an upper floor with dovetail joints, and, in the area of the hallway and utility section, an arcaded gallery.

House No. 191 in Verneřice was used as a plant nursery, together with greenhouses and a boiler house, at the latest from the period after the Second World War. Its heritage value includes the combination of masonry, log construction, and half-timbering. The building certainly dates from before 1843; historical cadastral maps indicate that it was originally a mill.

The former Leitenbergova kartounka textile printing works is an immovable cultural monument. It was built in 1796 as a two-storey weaving mill and formed the foundation of the Leitenberg family’s printing manufactory, the largest company for printing cotton fabrics. A steam engine of English origin was installed there in 1797.

Nature at Buková hora

Humboldtova vyhlídka viewpoint on Buková hora offers sweeping views of the České středohoří, the Ore Mountains, and deep into the Elbe Valley. On the southeastern slope of Buková hora, ice and snow remain even during the summer months in a crevice approximately 7 m deep.

The Bobří soutěska gorge lies about 2 km east of Verneřice and is managed by the administration of the CHKO České středohoří protected landscape area. In the vicinity of Verneřice, the gorge features steep rock walls up to 30 m high, rapids, boulders, and a waterfall approximately 6 m high. Its forested valley offers a walking route and provides a habitat for rare plants and animals.

Cycling Route and Transport History

Cycling route CY 1 runs from Verneřice via Příbram and Rychnov to Boletice. In 1889, business circles in Verneřice played a major role in initiating the establishment of the joint-stock company for the Velké Březno–Verneřice–Úštěk local railway.
