Staré Krecany: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
In the centre of Staré Křečany, the stone Church of Saint John of Nepomuk and the Křížová cesta are closely connected. The church was built between 1736 and 1741 and is a large Baroque sacred building surrounded by a cemetery in the centre of the village. Since 3 May 1958, it has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The Křížová cesta runs along the surrounding wall of the former cemetery next to the church; its chapels and the surrounding wall are also protected as cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. As the sixth of a total of fourteen Stations of the Cross in the Šluknovský výběžek, it also has a clearly identifiable position in this regional sequence. Opposite the church stands the vicarage, which is likewise protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
Culture and village character
The architectural character of Staré Křečany includes several half-timbered houses from the 17th and 18th centuries with board cladding, which are now protected as heritage monuments. In Brtníky, ground-floor log houses and upper floors made of logs or half-timbering with slate or wooden cladding are typical. The upper floor there is supported by a so-called podstávka construction.
Paths, rocks and nature
South of the village of Brtníky, there are numerous climbing areas in the valley of the Brtnický potok, in the Křinice Valley and in the Kyjov Valley. A total of 472 climbing routes are registered in the Kyjov Valley and Brtníky area. Brtníky is also the starting point for several marked hiking and cycling routes for visitors to České Švýcarsko National Park. From there, the blue-marked trail and cycle route No. 3032 lead towards the Křinice Valley and the Czech-German state border.
Landscape and paths
The Mandava rises west of Staré Křečany at an altitude of 460 metres. Its source was restored by the Klub českých turistů. The path to Brtnický hrádek leads over dozens of steps and stairways carved into the rock. The Brtnické ledopády can only be reached on foot; visitors can leave their car in one of the car parks or use bus connections to Kyjov, Vlčí Hora or Brtníky.
