Dolní Podluží: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Dolní Podluží is located on the northern side of the Lusatian Mountains, in a broad valley along the Lužnička stream. Dolní Podluží has a border crossing to Germany for pedestrians and cyclists; the village can be reached on foot and by bicycle from Großschönau. A cross-border cycling tour to Upper Lusatian half-timbered houses passes through Dolní Podluží.

Landscape

The deeply incised valley of the Milířka lies between Rohál, Čertova pláň and Kozí hřbet, approximately 2 km south of Dolní Podluží. The Lusatian Fault runs through the central part of the Milířka valley; it forms the boundary between the Lusatian granite massif to the north and the sandstones of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin to the south.

The valley is home to the Štola U Knížecí studánky, also called Antoniho štola, which is 208 m long. The mining educational trail in the Milířka valley begins and ends approximately 1 km from Uhlířská cesta, which leads from Dolní Podluží to the saddle below Ptačinec.

Architectural Heritage and History

The present-day masonry Church of St Catherine was completed in 1548. It is a prominent landmark of Dolní Podluží and an important part of the local landscape.

The crypt is a small funerary structure in a stylistically clear Gothic Revival design. It was built in 1893–1894 for Paul Brass, the son of the owner of the local textile factory, and was based on a design by the renowned Viennese architect Viktor Luntz. In 2020, the crypt was added to the list of cultural monuments.

A stone fountain structure in the Dolní Podluží cemetery also serves as a memorial to the 101 inhabitants of Podluží who died on the battlefields of the First World War. Dolní Podluží's sights also include an 18th-century wooden bell tower, which was restored in 2016 and received a new bell in 2018.

Culture and Crafts

The Bio Luž cinema is still in operation and shows films using Sony Digital Cinema 4K and RealD 3D. It was built in 1928–1929 and extensively renovated in 1979 and 1985.

GALLI DISTILLERY is a craft family distillery that produces fruit brandies and liqueurs in Dolní Podluží. The regional brand certificate has been awarded to the products LUŽICKÁ BYLINNÁ, JABLKOVICE, HRUŠKOVICE and RŮŽENÍN.
