Lipová U Šluknova: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Lipová combines historic buildings with the château pond and signposted trails. Between sacred architecture, château history, a nature trail and regional viewpoints, a multifaceted townscape unfolds.

Culture and History

The Church of Saints Simon and Jude in Lipová was built from 1691 to 1695, elevated to a deanery church in 1926 and registered as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic in 1958. The church holds weekly services as well as concerts and meetings organised by the municipality.

Half-timbered house No. 424 was built from 1721 to 1724 and has been a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1958. The restored house contains an information centre, a museum and a gallery, all open year-round. The information centre is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In the garden of the house, a permanent geological exhibition presents the geological similarities between the Šluknov Hook and the Upper Lusatian Highlands; more than 20 rocks are on display.

The château in Lipová was built from 1737 to 1741 by the nobleman Wilhelm Leopold Salm-Reifferscheidt as a family residence. It is considered an example of restrained Baroque architecture with clear intercultural influences. Parts of the château park, including the Baroque garden, have been restored.

The château pond in Lipová, also called Slawatův rybník, has an island and covers an area of 11 hectares. After the peasant uprising of 1680, it was built as an imposed act of reconciliation. The château park and château garden include a tree nursery and a hornbeam maze; the château park and château garden, together with these facilities, are accessible free of charge year-round.

Other historical landmarks include the cemetery chapel, built in 1875 in the Neo-Romanesque style and reconstructed in 2018, as well as the chapel in Liščí dating from 1826. The chapel in Liščí was reconstructed and has a bell tower with a bell. Třípanský kámen is a historic boundary stone from 1750 bearing the marks of the neighbouring estates of Sohland, Lipová and Wehrsdorf. Lipovské hudební léto had a long-standing tradition and mainly featured classical music performed by Czech musicians.

Trails and Nature

The Kolem zámeckého rybníka nature trail is 2.4 km long and has seven stations. It is signposted in both directions from the pond’s dam and from the U Pytláka restaurant. The stations cover invertebrates, fish, plants, wet alder forests and rodents. Lipová’s historic lime-tree avenue provides a setting for walks and cycling trips.

A blue-marked hiking trail from Šluknov to Lobendava via Jáchym runs through the centre of Lipová. Cycle Route No. 3041 also passes through Lipová. The Church Trail connects the Saxon town of Wehrsdorf with Lipová; it was restored in 2018 together with the town of Wehrsdorf and marked with tourist signs.

Surroundings

Mount Špičák lies in the immediate surroundings of Lipová. The nearby area also includes Mount Jitrovník, Idagrotte Cave and Mount Großer Teichstein. The wider regional surroundings include the Postelwitzer Höhe viewpoint, Hohnstein Castle, the historic site of Hirniskretzschen and the New Waterworks Redoubt fortification.
