Jiřetín Pod Jedlovou: Holiday Apartments and Houses

Jiřetín pod Jedlovou was founded as a mining town in 1548 following the discovery of silver ore deposits. To this day, mining history, protected landscapes and notable destinations around Jedlová and Tolštejn come together here.

Nature

Jiřetín pod Jedlovou lies in the western part of the Lužické hory Protected Landscape Area. In clear weather, Jedlová offers a panoramic view stretching from the Ore Mountains to the Krkonoše Mountains. A 23-metre-high stone lookout tower was built on the mountain in 1891. A ski lift leads to Jedlová; the area around the mountain also has cross-country skiing trails.

The Jedlová rope course is located at the summit of Jedlová next to the lookout tower. At the local Jedlová restaurant, visitors can try a yeast dumpling with blueberries as a regional speciality.

Culture and History

Most of Jiřetín pod Jedlovou has been designated an urban conservation area since 1992. The Church of the Holy Trinity was consecrated in 1612; most of its furnishings date from the 18th century. The rectory dates from 1755 and features a villa-style design with a mansard roof.

The complex on Křížová hora comprises the Chapel of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre. It has been protected as a cultural monument since 1969. Tolštejn is the ruin of a medieval castle first mentioned in 1337. The castle was built to protect the route from Bohemia to Lusatia.

The Jiřetín Mining Museum includes an exhibition section on the history of mining in Jiřetín pod Jedlovou and the surrounding area. The museum exhibition also includes the “Hornická naučná stezka Údolí Milířky” mining educational trail. The Jiřetín Mining Museum also includes the St. J. Evangelist adit, which is open annually from June. The museum is currently closed to the public for technical reasons.

The Tolštejnské slavnosti festival takes place annually and celebrates traditions, crafts and medieval life.

Activities

The sports centre in Jiřetín pod Jedlovou offers tennis, football, beach volleyball, mini golf and a swimming pool. Its grounds also include a forest park with a children’s playground, pond, open-air theatre and fire pit.

The 9.4-kilometre “Okolím Jiřetína pod Jedlovou” route begins in the market square, leads via Křížová hora to Jedlová and Tolštejn, and returns to Jiřetín pod Jedlovou. The sixth stage of the Hřebenovka leads via Krásná Lípa, Horní Podluží, Jiřetín pod Jedlovou, Jedlová and Tolštejn to Jedlová railway station. The fourth stage of the Via Nisa Crucis leads from Jiřetín pod Jedlovou to Hvozd (Hochwald).

At Jedlová, visitors can rent off-road scooters and ride one of five routes to the lower lift station. The mountain carts at Jedlová are intended for children and adults. The Tolštejn Estate tourist project also includes the “Vandrování po Tolštejnském panství” game, with the option of obtaining a mini-pass or pass.
